We are honored that you have chosen us to care for you, your family and your future. We provide comprehensive out-patient family and occupational medicine services. Womens Health: We recommend that women get their routine health maintenance exams with their family doctor. We offer pap smears, breast exams, contraception management, hormone replacement therapy, and advice on how to live a healthy lifestyle. Mens Health: We offer prostate checks, testicular cancer screening, and evaluation and treatment of erectile dysfunction. Pediatric Care: Our services include well-child exams starting with newborns, vaccinations, sports physicals, injury, illness, and parental advice. Osteopathic Adjustments: Dr. Scott DeBerard is a DO and can perform adjustments as needed. Occupational Medicine: We partner with employers to reduce workplace injuries and costs by providing high-quality workman’s compensation, pre-employment exams, baseline carpal tunnel screening, and medical surveillance. We offer executive physicals, DOT physicals, and FAA (all classes) physicals. We can also provide employment drug testing. Travel Medicine: We offer all required and recommended immunizations for foreign travel. We advise you on health and safety for your trip, and provide prescriptions for potential hazards during your travel, if necessary (malaria, altitude sickness, traveler’s diarrhea, etc.). Please be sure to bring your immunization record with you if you are seeing us for a travel consult. Lab Services: We collect specimens processing (blood, urine, stool, etc.). Most of our labs are processed outside the clinic and are available within a few days, and some labs can be completed during your appointment (rapid strep testing, urinalysis, urine pregnancy test, etc.). Your doctor will work with you to determine what labs, if any, you might need. If you prefer to get your labs done at another facility, we can provide a lab order for you. X-Ray: We can provide diagnostic x-ray services here in the clinic to evaluate a variety of conditions. Your doctor can help you decide if you need an x-ray, and he or she can review it the same day. In most cases a radiologist (an x-ray specialist) will also review your x-ray. If necessary, we can provide an order for a more specialized radiology testing (like a CT scan or MRI) to be done at another facility of your choice. Vision: We offer vision screening, which can be done at your routine annual exam or if you have a specific concern about your vision. Electrocardiogram (EKG): An EKG is a “heart tracing” that can detect a variety of heart diseases. Spirometry: Spirometry is used in the evaluation of lung complaints, such as cough and shortness of breath. Audiometry: Your hearing can be tested in clinic, and results are available immediately. Allergy Testing: We can provide allergen skin testing or do a blood draw to determine if you have specific allergies. Nerve Testing: We can do testing here in the clinic to determine what may be causing numbness, weakness, or other neurologic symptoms. Dermatology: We provide acne treatment, skin cancer diagnosis and treatment including biopsy, wart treatment, and treatment of skin infections. Orthopedics: We can help evaluate and treat fractures, sprains, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other orthopedic problems. Osteopathic adjustments are available in clinic. Our in-house x-ray helps you get answers quickly. Mental Health: We can help with anxiety, depression, insomnia, ADD, and other mental health issues. Tobacco Cessation: We can provide the tools you need to have the highest chance of quitting tobacco. New prescription medications are available. Surgical Procedures: We have two procedure rooms and can perform no-scalpel vasectomies, skin biopsies, laceration repairs, skin cancer treatments, and removal of fingernails/toenails. Prescriptions: In general, prescriptions for stable chronic medical conditions are written for 6 months at a time. Refills are designed to expire when you are due for your follow up appointment. You may call the clinic with your refill request, or request a refill through your pharmacy. Requests are processed within 24-48 hours. You will be notified when your refill is approved, but please call your pharmacy prior to leaving home to be sure they have had time to fill it. Medication Dispensary: For your convenience, most prescriptions may be dispensed in our clinic immediately after your appointment, through our medication dispensary. We bill most health insurance plans. Important Tips to Promote Efficiency: You must be very clear when requesting an appointment. Please specify exactly what type of appointment you would like and which physician you would prefer. Appointments are generally scheduled to be twenty-thirty minutes long for single “uncomplicated” problems. Examples of uncomplicated problems are sinusitis, ear infection, shoulder pain, or hypertension. Patients with multiple problems should request extra time when scheduling their appointments. Services Not Provided: We do not perform in-patient hospital care or obstetrics. If you should require non-specialist hospitalization, we have contracted with internists at the Alaska Hospitalist Group to admit and care for our in-patients. Upon discharge they return our patients back to us with detailed information regarding the hospitalization and any necessary follow-up care. By calling the clinic after normal business hours, your doctors can be paged. At our earliest opportunity we will assist you in determining the best course of action, whether home care, urgent care, or the emergency room. If you are being evaluated in the Emergency Room and require general admittance to a hospital, ask the physician to page the Alaska Hospitalist doctor on call. |
